02 · WHO CAN VOTE

Who can vote.

Do you live in Langford?

You can vote as a resident elector if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older on or before General Voting Day
  • A Canadian citizen
  • A resident of B.C. for at least 6 months immediately before you register
  • A resident of Langford on the day you register
  • Not disqualified from voting by law

Not on the voters’ list? You can still register when you vote, as long as you meet the qualifications.

Own property here but live somewhere else?

You can vote as a non-resident property elector if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older and a Canadian citizen
  • A resident of B.C. for at least 6 months immediately before you register
  • A registered owner of real property in Langford for at least 30 days immediately before you register
  • Not entitled to register as a resident elector in Langford
  • Not otherwise disqualified from voting by law

You may still vote as a resident where you live, while voting in Langford as a non-resident property elector. Property owned by a corporation or company does not qualify.

Co-owned property

  • Only one owner can register as the non-resident property elector for that property.
  • That person must be designated in writing, with written consent from the majority of the other owners.
  • Bring the completed consent form when you register to vote.

Need the consent form? Pick one up at Langford City Hall before voting day, or at a voting location on election day.

03 · WHAT TO BRING

What to bring.

  1. On the voters’ list

    Bring your ID anyway. Langford uses the Provincial Voters List, and if you turn out not to be on it, you can still register on the spot with two pieces of ID.

  2. Not on the list

    Bring two pieces of ID that prove who you are and where you live. At least one must show your signature. If your ID doesn’t show your address, you can make a solemn declaration of where you live.

  3. Non-resident property owner

    Bring two pieces of ID plus proof you own the property, such as a property tax notice, recent assessment, or land title certificate. If it’s co-owned, bring the written majority-consent form too.

Accepted ID includes

  • BC Driver’s Licence
  • BC Identification Card
  • BC Care Card or BC Gold Care Card
  • BC Services Card, with or without a photo
  • Vehicle insurance papers
  • Social Insurance Number card
  • Citizenship card
  • Property tax notice
  • Credit or debit card
  • Utility bill

A combined Driver’s Licence and BC Services Card counts as one piece of ID.

04 · WHERE TO VOTE

Advance voting · October 7 & 14 · 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

General Voting Day · Saturday, October 17 · 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

05 · VOTE BY MAIL

Can’t make it in person? Vote by mail.

Mail ballot voting is available to eligible Langford electors. Apply to the City for a ballot package, in person at City Hall, by mail, or by email, then return your completed ballot before the polls close.

  • 24/7 drop box outside the entrance of Langford City Hall, 877 Goldstream Avenue
  • By hand, Canada Post or courier to City Hall Reception, 2nd Floor, 877 Goldstream Avenue, Langford V9B 2X8 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

06 · SPECIAL VOTING

Long-term care residents, workers & patients can vote too.

Langford offers special voting opportunities at designated long-term care facilities.

    Oct 8 · 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Cherish at Central Park

  • Jesken Aerie – Assisted Living

    817 Goldstream Avenue

    Oct 15 · 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

These opportunities are only for residents, workers and patients of those facilities. Everyone else should vote at advance voting or on General Voting Day.

Need a hand at the polls?

Curbside voting

If you come to a voting place but can’t go inside, an election official can bring a ballot to you at your vehicle.

Help marking your ballot

An election official or someone with you can help. They must make a solemn declaration to keep your ballot secret, mark it as you wish, and not influence your choice.
